Tailored Advice

We recommend a wood-burning or multi-fuel stove with a nominal heat output of 1.7 kW (suited for outputs between 1 kW and 3 kW). Stoves under 5 kW generally do not require an additional room air vent.

Using the Stove Heat Calculator

Selecting your Stove system

Choosing the right stove can seem like a daunting task and there are many things to consider. Whether you are choosing a stove because of rising fuel costs, the environment or simply to add warmth and character to your home, it's important to get the right advice and the right appliance.

This heat calculator should only be used as a guide, when choosing your stove you should always seek professional advice before purchase.

To use the calculator, select your insulation level, enter your room dimensions in feet (imperial) or meters (metric), and tap the correct measurement button.

Please be aware that a number of contributing factors can affect the required heat output of any stove.

These include, but are not limited to; house age, installation of stove (this should always be carried out by a qualified and registered installer), vents or drafts, ceiling height, glazing's, insulation and other heating devices that you may use around your home.

Stove heat output is generally measured in kW (kilowatts), the higher the kW the greater the stove heat output. It is also important to know that the chimney plays a fundamental role and this should provide a minimum flue draft of around 12 Pascal's in order to get the best performance from any stove.

Need Help?

Every home is unique. Factors like external wall exposure, glass volume, stairwells, and chimneys affect heat loss. For a certified design plan, we recommend scheduling an on-site consultation or consulting a registered installer.
